Hello All,

This have been a busy 2 week period and finally, relief & closing to an interesting year, almost.

Between running my business, Both of my Daughters Turing 16 years old, Sweet 16 Birthday Party's & Each wanting their drivers license, and the Final Election results, I am burnt out....… And lost my hair, really, it's gone.

I do realize, As allot of you also, That when you are going and going for months on end with no rest in site, and then finally you get that rest... Well.. Do you feel as lost as I do?

Anyway, as of a few day's ago, I received my retail copies of Nero 9 and Move it, as promised, I am now setting aside some of this free-time I have to dedicate to doing some small video shorts of Nero's applications and features that are offered.

I have spoken to allot of my clients and friends and asked, what would they think would be the best way to get started with this project? This is what we came up with and reason's why.

Now I realize there are allot of intermediate to expert users out there that are computer savvy and really understand the inner workings of software and hardware, I also understand that those ones that have spent years with computers don't really need the information as allot of the newer users and ones that have not been privy to using a computer with Nero Software for a long period of time.

So do I strike a balance, start out as everyone has a complete grasp on system and software concept's? Or start from the ground, and work up.

I was thinking back to about 11 years ago, I had been hired by our local school district to teach an adult education class on Computer Concepts twice a week for 12 weeks, I had also been Employed with the School District for 6 years prior in the Computer Department, A small team of 4 of us that took care of 19 Schools in the whole district, I really loved that job, Met allot of great people, and was asked to teach that adult Computer Class in the evening.

Now I need to be truthful here, I had never taught a class before, I had spoken to groups of people about how Wireless was taking off and how business and regular consumers could harness this new concept also how to control and manage security in a business atmosphere(Remember this was many Years ago, Wireless was a new thing and real scary to allot of folks 7 computer were really just becoming mainstream and excepted as common household item… or however you would like to address the concept, it was just new and scary...)

"Now look how far we have come."

Anyway..

I had walked into this portable building at 6:00 p.m., to teach my first class, 18 very nice and very Computer illiterate folks...... were there.

" Have you heard the saying that Computer Hardware Designers "SHOULD NOT" write the Manuals for the Hardware they create because in the end, No One can understand what they wrote"?

Thats they way I felt, the lump in my throat grew, along with my innards in knots... Unsureness in myself if I would be able to do this.

Well I was lucky enough the first night to take time and find out what the folks wanted to be taught, I asked each one to write down what they wanted to have a grasp in understanding a general concept, by the end of the 12 week class, also what was more important to them to learn and just what they wanted to use a computer for,

"Lucked out on that one" but I learned something important from that experience.

All of them, Including myself were unsure of ourselves in our own way, Each one of the Students were unsure, and really afraid of the computer, i was unsure of how i was going to handle the task of teaching them, and making sure when they finished this course that they had paid for, that they would walk away and feel satisfied, and most of all sure enough in themselves, while enjoying the experience and not making them more hesitant then what they where before they entered the door.

I completed the first night and it went well, I had the information in hand they had written down that evening, reviewing each one closely, I had two day's to try and put together a Lesson plain that would be beneficial to all of them, and to each ones personal needs, but how?

Note: "These folks were warped up so tight, if the tension and unsureness were to let go all at once, the Small portable building we all were in would have disintegrated."

The one thing I had interpreted from the writings of each of them was not in direct words but "They all felt the same way",

They all had a commonality with each other "They Were Afraid of The Computer"

This was the bond I needed to tie them all together, and I needed to make them all feel sure of themeless, as Individual's and as a group.

Note: "Once you get a group of people with the same commonality's and interests, you can tackle allot of things at once, and create a good learning atmosphere and a safe place to learn."

The next class was interesting, I had brought in some 8088 & 286 motherboards, assorted video cards, ram and numerous other items, like CD burners ect... Just Parts in a box, and handed them out to be passed around the room.

"Now the concept behind this was, in my mind easy, "But would it work"? if they were afraid of computers, Show them they had nothing to fear, And really, a computer in itself is just a sum of it parts pieced together, and is far less intimidating in pieces then the loud roaring fan's and spinning drives that had invoked the fear in them in the first place."

After the passing of the Parts (revelation here :-) ) that the whole mood of the class changed, question's where being asked, the student's where more relaxed and comfortable, communication was flowing and they all felt more at ease with themeless and each other.

The last 10 weeks of the class were fun, and allot of folks were helping each other, this environment was one of the best I had ever encountered,It was the people, and willingness to understand that we all have commonality's, allot of the same, including the teacher.

"My Own Belief is 'There are no dumb questions" "and no matter what, no one should be afraid to ask a question for fear of someone criticizing them, only the ones that criticize need to look in on themselves and realize they are the ones searching for answers, but believe the have them all but have none."

Now what does this all have to do with the "Nero Video Short's"

I will start with the rule, Basic's first and move forward, since there is a number of different needs, use what you can disagreed what you don't need, everyone benefits.

The first video's will be basic interface and maneuverability concepts of the applications 7 General GUI, being able to find all the applications, from using the Nero menu's on up to expert settings and uses. Creating certain types of projects, codec issues and tweaking aspects will be added in liner notes.

The videos will be a visual walkthrough of completing a certain task, step by step, (Nero offers some great step by step tutorial's on their site, so I will augment by added information to each of their included videos so we don't address things that have already been covered by the Nero tutorials.

I will add some suggested setting's to use by experts in the field and some links to great blogs that have already covered items of interest, with links to pages so you may research further, also firmware links and information on best disc usage.

So within the next few weeks new video shorts and information will be posted here on my blog, i will address the basic issues and move forward, as we get closer to the more involved task's, I will open the Blog up for requests for specific tasks, I encourage all of you that would like to share information with our community to do so, lets keep this as fun and entertaining as we can, also please always remember lets offer respect to all those who participate, no question will be treated as dumb or unworthy to be answered.

I will keep this blog on the concept that we will follow the path of helping other users, Please have respect for each individual that post's.

Nero 9 Video Short's

Hello All,

I have been working with Nero 9 putting it through it's paces, trying to get a feel for the New features and improvements that have been added and those that have been changed, I am Impressed with the improvements of the Interface, Nero 9 seems to be more Snappier and fun to use, There were some problems with installing the Program until a re-download on the new updated version.

Nero Move-It has a Nice Clean Pleasant interface, Coupled with the fact that it makes it easier to be able to drag and drop or just point and click at what you would like the program to Preform each task you would like, and this is a greatly appealing to users that need an option to convert or manage different types of Media for Many platform's or just one "Very Nice"

I am Limited on what i can do as my time with the Demo's is up, I have uninstalled the Demo Version's from My system and Put back on Nero 8, I would like to keep using and testing Nero 9 and Move-It with my Video and Audio Files & will re post when i get the full retail Version Of Nero 9 installed.

If After I Reinstall Nero 9 And Move -It Again I am setting up to do a Series called
"Nero 9 Video Help Short's"
I will Start with the New Features in Nero 9 and move to Nero’s Move-it and then to other applications that Nero offers, I would really like the Community to offer there input on what they need help with, I will keep the videos short and to the point, they will be able to be downloaded and kept for personal use and even burnt to DVD after the series is complete “Whenever that is”

I will Start with some small shorts in the coming weeks that i will choose, then i will open up my blog for suggestions from Nero 9 users that would like to have a small video Walkthrough to help and augment their journey with the New Nero 9 Series of Software application’s.

I believe allot of users will be surprised on the use of Nero 9, The integration with Vista is also improved greatly, and there were some problems on the Release of the Nero 9 Software 3 weeks ago, this had been taken care of, please make sure if you have a version of Nero on your System you download the Correct Nero Clean Tool located on the Nero Downloaded paged to Remove Any Traces of Nero fro you system.

So in the Next few weeks there will be a Video Short Added of the New Nero 9 Feature Set, then Bi-Weekly Video updates after that, Then I will open the Blog up for Nero 9 users that would like to ask for a specific Video Walk through.

I Encourage everyone to get evolved if they like.

Note: The Timing of this Depends on getting my hand’s on the full Nero 9 Retail & Move-it & complete my other Clients projects by the deadline set.

Since the Demo of Nero 9 is the Same as the Retail version but Limited Codec's usage is built into the Demo’s Both Nero 9 And Move-It.

I will include a Video Release so User may use the “Video Shorts” for Private (Home Use Only) But No Commercial for profit use. and lets be honest, the quality of these are compress down to a small web stream size :-}

If those that wish a greater high quality for (DVD or ipod) I will post the higher definition videos on a free site, “but I believe I am getting the cart before the horse”

So lets see how this works out, and how this is accepted and what people need.

Announcing the RTM of Windows Vista SP1

SP1 availability for current Windows Vista users:

In mid-March, we will release Windows Vista SP1 to Windows Update (in English, French, Spanish, German and Japanese) and to the download center on microsoft.com. Customers who visit Windows Update can choose to install Service Pack 1. If Windows Update determines that the system has one of the drivers we know to be problematic, then Windows Update will not offer SP1. Since we know that some customers may want to update to SP1 anyhow, the download center will allow anyone who wants to install SP1 to do so.
In mid-April, we will begin delivering Windows Vista SP1 to Windows Vista customers who have chosen to have updates downloaded automatically. That said, any system that Windows Update determines has a driver known to not update successfully will not get SP1 automatically. As updates for these drivers become available, they will be installed automatically by Windows Update, which will unblock these systems from getting Service Pack 1. The result is that more and more systems will automatically get SP1, but only when we are confident they will have a good experience.
The remaining languages will RTM in April.

Ok, today it is Official, We will soon see it for all users, and allot of torrent sites at this time have it.

Becareful, there are allot of Rouge Versions out There.

Also, over the weekend, i had posted about the release, i had gotten an Email stting that it could be delayed, But as of 3:00am this morning it was confirmed.

Questions and Answers for Nero

1. What does Nero think about Blu-ray and HD-DVD, do you favor any of the formats?

Different from some of our competitors, Nero does not favor any of the 2 mentioned formats. Nero supports them both.

2. Who do you consider to be your biggest competitors and how do you differentiate from them?

Seeing the functionalities and possibilities of Nero 8, we have many competitors.

We first have the companies targeting 1 application like photo or video editing, CD/DVD burning, backup software, …

Then we have companies trying to offer a similar package like Nero, covering a full spectrum of multimedia applications. En then last (but not least) we have Microsoft offering some basic multimedia functionalities in XP or Vista.

Nero differentiates from its competitors, to always offer new features and formats/standards in the fastest possible way. The user can then obtain them free of charge within the same version.

3. How many people use Nero worldwide?

Seeing the fact that Nero software is bundled with leading Optical Disc drive and PC manufacturers, and the best sold multimedia software in Retail and Online, there are several hundred million Nero users worldwide.

4. With Nero, which group is your target? is the advanced user or the family and beginners?

Nero 8 targets both the entry level as well as the advanced user. In several of our applications, the user can choose the “basic” or the “advanced” version.

5. A lot of users switch to different software because Nero has too much features, functionality, different applications, is this a problem for Nero? Any solutions for this?

By offering a full range of multimedia applications, we try to give the user the best price/performance ratio. If a user wants to buy all the functionalities that Nero 8 offers, he/she needs to spend over 200€. For 69,99€ for Nero 8, they get more than 20 advanced multimedia applications; or around 3€ per application. This is the best value available in the market.

6. Why can't Nero make a easy to read tutorial? Nero makes it so complicated, I can't even understand it.

We are constantly improving our documentation and tutorials. For Nero 8 for example, we took the feedback of our users from Nero7 and implemented this in Nero 8 (documentation, software and tutorials).

But any suggestions that can improve the software and the manuals/tutorials, are very welcome. This is the only way for us to give the user an even better experience in the future.

7. What does Nero think of free burning software, for those who only want to burn a CD/DVD what does offer Nero more?

In order to be able to offer some key technologies for the users like Dolby or MPEG, we need to pay royalties to the patent holders. Free software can never offer these key technologies, and therefore they can only offer a very limited functionality.

8. Why does Nero not allow to make backup’s of movies that people have purchased but which contain a copy protection?

Nero fully supports anti-piracy and copyright laws, and the fact that it is illegal to remove or work around any type of copy protection. Nero allows the copying of any type of content that is not copy protected.

9. What is the strategy behind Nero? What is your aim to achieve? Becoming the largest downloadable all-round application?

Nero´s main strategy is to offer the user the best multimedia experience and the best price/performance multimedia software in the market. If these efforts result in market leadership, then this is an asset, but has never been a target itself.

10. Why are you forcing Nero indexing, Nero Scout to be installed, when people don't want it?

Nero Scout is currently required for some of our applications such as Nero MediaHome and Nero Home to properly function. The indexing services running in the background are also necessary for creating and maintaining the Nero Scout multimedia database, making it more convenient for a user to stream or playback content from an indexed database than it would be to search the system for content. It is also less time consuming and much more user-friendly, especially if the user has their PC configured to run as a media center. Nero Scout is simply a database and is therefore not system stressing or resource consuming, nor does it require much storage place. We have significantly improved the performance of the indexing services and we have implemented them to run only when the system is idle. As soon as there is any user activity, the services become inactive. There is also an option for deactivating Nero Scout and the related services completely. For future versions, we will evaluate other possibilities regarding Nero Scout and its services. I have to say, this type of question always amuses me, since I do not hear many people complaining about iTunes or its services, which are far more system stressing and invasive than Nero Scout.

11. Why won't NERO8 automatically install LightScribe? NERO7 did

There have not been retail versions or web demo versions of Nero 7 that installed the Lightscribe API automatically. The Lightscribe API always had to be downloaded and installed separately. Only a few OEM versions, which were bundled with Lightscribe drives, did the installation automatically. The reason is pretty simple; we want to make sure that users install the latest available Lightscribe API, which we provide on our website, guaranteeing the proper function of Lightscribe features.

12. Are you concerned that many advanced users have not 'upgraded' from Nero 6?

I don´t understand where this information comes from.

Seeing the sales figures of Nero 7 and now the new Nero 8, and the number of users upgrading from previous versions (also Nero 6) I can only conclude that the above statement is not correct.

Additionally, I can state an anecdote that I had this year at the IFA in Berlin. I had a chance to talk to a 65 year old person that was already using Nero since version 3, and told me he is so satisfied with Nero software that he has been upgrading every single new version that has come out, and he told me he will upgrade to Nero 8 as soon as it is available. I can assure you that these kinds of conversations give me a tremendous satisfaction and show that the products we offer really offer something to the people.

13. Why does Nero not issue details of the changes made from version to version. With the large file size having to be downloaded each time, I would like to know if the problems I am having have been fixed.

Nero publishes release notes after every update, and we have been doing so for many versions over many years. Of course we present only the most important changes in these release notes, which can be found on our website.

14. Why is support so slow? With most of my software I can get an answer within 24 hours. Nero takes a week if you are lucky.

Our aim is to give feedback within 24-48 hours.

I can not judge individual case-by-case why sometimes it would take longer (I can only imagine that this could happen when it concerns very complicated questions or during the release of a new version. Furthermore, let me point out that we try to provide our customers not only with answers, but with solutions. We provide responses which should solve the problem so that the user does not have to call or write again. Other software companies’ support departments give canned answers just for the sake of a prompt response. We do not believe this is effective technical support.

15. Does Nero 8 have the ability to transcode video files from PAL to NTSC and vice-versa? If so, what element of the product suite offers that feature?

Nero Vision 5, like its predecessors, has the ability to convert PAL to NTSC and vice versa. Nero Recode will be able to do that during encoding procedures to MPEG-4 with the upcoming Nero 8 update.

After hours of debate over the appropriate length of time to ban Internet access taxes, members of a House committee on Wednesday approved a bill that would extend the Internet tax moratorium for an additional four years.

Instead of extending the moratorium on Internet access taxes for four years, They had an option to stop it all together.

But as we have seen all to often, Pass the buck, Slide it under the Rug and Wait 4 more years to talk about it.

In addition to the extension issue, H.R. 3678 also includes a definition of Internet access as a service that enables a user to connect to the Internet. ((WHAT!!))
Taxes and other government-imposed charges can boost your phone and cable TV bills by 20% or more.

As a Business Owner, and as most everyone with a close Eye on this, The Effects can be costly and Hinder Services.

Just as the Age of Internet shopping and communications Explode. Allot might be stopped In there tracks before they can even try to market new products and services, due to a excise tax for even getting on the Net to check your email.

(Don't get this Confused with not having to pay taxes for items purchased, It is still under control of your state if taxes are imposed, but we will have to pay a tax to use the internet that wasn't there before, and this can increase your monthly service bill)

The Internet Tax Freedom Act goes to the House Next for a full vote.

The Ban on Internet Taxes Seems Safe, But its the Added extra that was included that could increase your bill.

With all the New Features I will focus on One that I Love,and Have Used. AND IT WORKS!!!!

NERO RESCUEAGENT

If you have a Damaged disk (CD/DVD), or need to restore a file off of DVD or CD, and your drive won't let you, and you get thoes Nasty Errors.

Nero8 RescueAgent is here to Help.

1. Start Nero RescueAgent From The Tools Menu In StartSmart Or From your Start Icon in Wondows under - Nero8 / NeroToolKit/Nero RescueAgent.

2. Insert The CD/DVD into the Drive.

If you have More Than One Drive Pick the Drive That has the DVD or CD you Want To Rescue.

3. CLICK Scan......

4. Choose A folder you would like RescueAgent to Save the Restored File's Too. (IN YELLOW)

5.Pick the file's you would like to restore by clicking on the check boxes beside them. (IN RED)

6. Click On Recover and your done.

7. Retrieve Your Files From Where YouTold Nero RescueAgent to Save Them.

Now That Was Easy And POWERFULL !!!

DVR to DVD Question & Answer's

One of our forum member's has had some problems with Making a copy of individual Shows and placing them on a different disc, (Recorded from A DVR TV Set top Box)

I had thought this would be a great subject, and some of our other forum members could add their own Success’s or failures to this Topic.

With the use of TVIO, and other DVR (Digital Video Recorder's) It has become common place for most households to have some kind of Video Distribution in there home's.

Any Comment's would be Helpful to our User's out there that are getting their first taste of Video Conversion.

Bellow I Have Added Some of My Excerpt’s I had Posted the Answer to some Of the Problem’s This Forum Member Was Having.

DVR Native Format - Most DVR’s use a native format, it could be DVD-RAM, or AVI, MP4, Mpeg1, Mpeg2. The problem is most set top boxes from different manufactures use there own native format; Normally this can be changed in the option menu of the recorder

Problem-1 Answer

No Matter what you do, you cannot remove protection from a DVR Recorder if a Content Filter has been set in the recording Stream of the Video, Most if not all New recorders have a feature built into them that do Not Allow you to transfer the Video to another Dices, This is due to Copy Protection Set forth by Federal Mandated Law, You cannot Make A Digital (Exact Copy) and Transfer It,

If you used A TV Card Inside XP or Vista Media Center You can Do This, But Set Top Boxes (DVR) Don’t Allow It. (Remember What I Said Here, This Only Applies If Protection Is in The Stream , Or If The Recorder Itself Uses A Proprietary use of Copy Protection.) You can Copy If These Thing's Are Not Present.

Problem-2 Answer

You need to Rip the software from the DVR disc to the Hard Drive With A Third Party Program, Nero or any other Name Brand Burning Suite's do Not offer Ripping. This Is Illegal in Most Countries, so you must find a Third Party Program to Rip the Video Information to the Hard Drive. Use at your Own Risk. I cannot advise you what to get, and this will only work if your particular recorder didn’t lock the Content Stream Of the video or the Format is locked by copy protection of the Recorder. Allot of Lockup's Occur if you Simply Drag and Drop from DVR Disc to Hard Drive- And this is even if the Computer DVD Burner Will Recognize the Disc.

Problem-3 Answer

And then there comes the problem if Your Particular DVR has added DRM to the Recorded (DVR) you are using, and all my bets are they Have. Then No Matter what you do, you can’t Place the Individual Program’s On a Different Disc, You are stuck with The Original disk you recorded to. (Work around- Analog Copy Using a Capture Card to convert the Video information and then save it, A very long process and you lose picture quality.)

So in the long run we spoke of what would cause you not to be able to convert or change a video recorded from a DVR.

Now I would like to hear from some of our member on what they have done, and if they were successful, what SetTop DVR TV boxes were used?

An Optimistic View With a Realistic Attitude.

During the past few week’s I have encountered a mass of overwhelming setbacks and no time to call my own. A family to take care of, and two teenagers, which have their own problems.

First, it started with a Mainboard Capacitor exploding on my 2 month old 680i SLI, An explosive mess that has left the smell of burnt components and smoke to cloud my mind for a long time to come. A reminder that even though I felt alone in this setback, I have joined the ranks of others that have experienced there own kind of problem’s, or as I like to call them, of course “Setbacks”.

I will not go into details but I will say that I learned allot from the experience, as the old saying goes “You get more flies with honey then you do with vinegar” This is so true, And I’ll explain how I saw this first hand, With only this one experience that will wrap it all up into a nutshell.

I’m close to my mid forty’s, I have been fortunate to experience allot of things, I have traveled, I love Europe, And I guess the most memorable of thing’s, is when I took a retreat to LOURDE France, It changed my life, but mostly, it was the people that made the most impact on me. The one thing that made the biggest impact was the realization that, we are all the same, No one is any better than anyone else is, but it is our differences, that make us great, if we chose to see them for what they are.

The last paragraph is just to introduce you to my train of thought, Now back to the story, I Called the Supplier of my Mainboard, Explained what had occurred, and the first thing out of this Person’s mouth was “These Board’s Just Don’t Blow UP”.

After that Response, I was very infuriated, I took a few deep breaths, and said “Now DID I Say’ the Board Blew UP?, No, I said A Capacitor exploded” Long Pause form the tech on the phone…, I will be Back, Please Hold.

Ok, here we are on hold, The Flying sequels Playing, “I RAN” In the background, “Hey remember when MUZAK played in the background?” At least I liked the song, 8 minutes gone by; Tech comes on the Phone

” I’m transferring you to the Supervisor “Click… (Long Pause) This is ****** technical Supervisor, I have you on speaker phone with one of our engineers is this ok? Can we help you?

Ok folk’s to make a long story short, the supervisor was very helpful; they were very concerned on the type of damage done, and if there was any other damage outside of the system, for fear of legal problems, I would say. I ended up sending some high res digital photo’s through Email to him of the Disaster. And the investigation starts, within 3 days of them receiving the board, I had an answer back, The replacement will be sent soon and 4 gigs of my memory will be replaced with an addition of a few extra item’s for my trouble.

Throughout this whole fiasco, I kept my calm, even with the rude tech that first took my call, I demanded nothing and received what I set out to do. a replacement for my damages without lifting so much as a finger only to make the call, I stead fast and was polite explained my concerns and let them take it from there. An optimistic positive outlook will grant nothing more than a real outcome that is both satisfying and positive.

Now the moral of the story is, treating other people with respect will give you back respect from them, and give you the satisfaction of knowing you kept your wits about you throughout the whole ordeal. But then again I have been known to make a ass of myself from time to time. Just ask my Kid’s…
