Artist, Album, & Track Names in Nero 8

All I do is burn audio CDs....I was using Nero 7, and once I figured out how to do it....no problem burning the artist, album, and track names.....upgraded to Nero 8......launch Burning ROM, enter the album name, enter the artist name, add the track files......and what do I get???

Playing track 01

-No artist name

-Right track name

Playing track 02

-No artist name

-Right track name

Playing track 03

-Unknown artist

-No track name, just track 3

For tracks 04-11, same thing: unknown artist and no track name....

Why does such a simple task have to be so difficult in Nero 8???? Frankly, I'd rather have my Nero 7 back.....

CD/DVD Burn Failures? Here's some things to check.

Having burn failures and can't figure it out? Here's some things to check.

Firmware up to date on the drive? Check and see if it is.

In Nero open SmartStart and go to Tools (ToolKit in Nero 6) then InfoTool. Pick the drive in the drop down. In the drive tab there's a field for the current version.

<a style="display:block;text-align:center;float: left" uri="media://m103/st0000/7200121" href="http://m103.my.nero.com/service/pic/media/9MEG7200121/500x500/Nerofirmware.png" rel="lightbox[pic132c484b2c21c7b79bc44db7dc24d88e]" title="
Nerofirmware.png
">

Where do you see if there's a later version?

Check the manufacturer of the drives website - usually under support.
If the drive came with the pc then check the pc manufacturers site for an update.
You can also check the firmware page - forum.rpc1.org/dl_search.php

What's firmware you ask?

Firmware is the instructions for the drive - think of it as a sort of operating system.
One important thing firmware does is give the drive the media codes for it to have the right read and write strategies.
If the media code for the manufacturer of the disc you are using is not in
the firmware then the drive will use a generic write pattern. Doesn't
always mean a failure but can.

What brand of media are you using?

Not all media is created equal :) And not all is compatible with all drives even if you have the latest firmware.
Check the drive manufacturer's site for what brand of media is recommended.
Different media may just do the trick!

Even if the media worked before a new spindle may not. That's because the 'brand' name outsources to a manufacturer. Example Memorex DVD's can be made by Ricoh Japan, CMC, Ritek, Fuji, Prodisc, Moser Baer, MCC and several more.

Good ones that are usually listed for most drives are Verbatim and Taiyo Yuden - my personal fav's.

Verbatim's are made by MCC the majority of the time. Taiyo Yuden is the actual manufacturer and can usually be found instore under the name of Sony, Fuji, Maxell etc but look for made in Japan. Or they can usually be found on reputable online stores.

CDs now are more widely supported by cd/dvd drives. They've been around much longer than DVDs.

How about the burn speed?

Try burning at half the rated speed of the media. Like 16x at 8x. Just because the media says it can be burned at 16x doesn't mean that that's the optimal burn speed.

All your drives in DMA Mode and not the slow PIO mode?

You can check this is device manager. Right click on my computer>properties>hardware tab>device manager.
Click the + next to IDE ATA/ATAPI Controllers.

<a style="display:block;text-align:center;float: left" uri="media://m103/st0000/7200123" href="http://m103.my.nero.com/service/pic/media/aMhn7200123/500x500/ide.jpeg" rel="lightbox[pic132c484b2c21c7b79bc44db7dc24d88e]" title="
ide.jpg
">
Right click on the each ide channel (one at a time to check) and go to properties>advanced settings.

<a style="display:block;text-align:center;float: left" uri="media://m103/st0000/7200124" href="http://m103.my.nero.com/service/pic/media/RggS7200124/500x500/dma.jpeg" rel="lightbox[pic132c484b2c21c7b79bc44db7dc24d88e]" title="
dma.jpg
">
Both current transfer and transfer mode should have DMA listed.
If one of the devices shows Transfer Mode - Not Applicable - that's ok - just means no drive is connected to this channel.
Now if one or more shows in PIO right click on that ide channel and pick uninstall. Reboot and let Windows do it's thing and reinstall the ide channel. Drives should now be in DMA mode.

Program you're using to burn up to date?

Most CD/DVD burning programs are pretty stable and do a good job - esp. Nero :) but there may be a bug with the program and your pc setup that an update will fix. So keep your programs current.

Well that's about it - just some basics. Feel free to add what I might have missed!

Reduce speed on CD write

Have LG CD-RW with 52X write speed. Nero Express 6.6.1.15 always starts up with write speed drop-down menu allowing me only 2 choices, maximum or 52X. This invariably produces flaky or bad copies (though sometimes Nero thinks they are OK). After making the usual bad copy or 2 the drop-down menu (if and when it feels like) opens up and allows me to choose write speeds right down to 1X. I can then make 100% perfect copies every time (choosing speeds usually 8X to 16X depending on media.) How can I force Nero to allow me to set (or lock) a nice low write speed (say 8X) right at its start-up and avoid wasting so many blanks? Seems I had no troubles this way with older versions of Nero. Have tried using Nero "Drive Speed" before copying but with no effect. The drop-down menu still does its own thing. Appreciate any help on this (or a good psychiatrist.) Thanks, John.

Nero's Tips: #1 - How to Determine Actual Write Speed

Everybody sees the drive speed plastered on the box for whatever
optical drive he buys: 48X, 16X, 52X, etc. But most people know that
these numbers rarely represent the actual writing speed of an optical
drive at any given time -- only the maximum potential speed during a
particular burn.

Because of this, a lot of people find it
useful to know the actual write speed that their drives are putting out
at a particular time. What they may not know is that Nero Burning ROM
and Nero Express can display this number for you, with just a few extra
clicks.

Here's how to do it (I apologize for the lack of pictures, my uploader is acting up on me):

--

In Nero Burning ROM

1. Open the File Menu -> Select Options -> Select the 'Misc' Tab

2. Scroll down until you see the 'Burning' Tree (the icon is a CD with a match).

3. Click the checkbox reading 'Show real recorder write speed while burning.'

--

In Nero Express

1. Click the expand arrow on the middle left of the window.

2. Click on Options -> Select the 'Misc' Tab

3. Click the checkbox reading 'Show real recorder write speed while burning.'

--

That's it. From now on, you will be able to see the actual write speed your drive is getting as Nero burns optical discs for you. You'll find this tool can be useful for maintenance: if you notice a drop in speed or highly erratic speed, it may be time to replace or clean your drive.

Stay tuned for more tips from Nero!
