NERO 8 with VISTA Home Premium

I speak English and read German. I'll trade knowledge on Windows Operating Systems , if someone can walk me through the Social Aspects of My Nero.

I've been using NERO 8 with VISTA Home Premium for two months, there are a few ideas I have that may help. Nero does like to take control of an OS multi-media in every way IF YOU let it.

I know browser fixes, conflicts that NERO can cause in the registry. NERO is an NOS (Nuetral Media System) within whatever type of OS you use i.e. Windows - Linux etc.. It's suppose to merge within the shell without causing conflicts. If everyone used the basic versions of XP Home and VISTA cheap, it would however, most of us home users have XP SP3, if you buy a new PC most likely it will have VISTA Home Premium which already has a media center. I used Windows XP Media Center before upping to Vista, so I learned a few things as I've used NERO on and off for three years.

If you are thinking about dumping NERO for SONIC, give NERO a chance. It blows Sonic out of the water. I don't know how much I'll be in My Nero. Show me a few of the Social network shortcuts and I will do my best to help you with easy talk instructions and fixes. coolradio106@sbcglobal.net I can give mass answers on "Ask Yahoo" STU

Backitup and Vista

Is there any problem making a disc image of the entire hard drive of a machine loaded with Vista Home Premium so that I can restore the operating system in case of a hard drive failure? I have Nero 8 Ultimate. The computer O.E.M. did not include a Vista install disc, and I understand the Disaster Recovery Disc will only re-load operating files from the hard drive, a useless endeavor if the hard drive crashed.

Vista DVD Maker

Question:

I created a DVD from a Movie Maker Movie using vista dvd maker.
Now, when i complete the movie, when I try to burn a DVD, as soon as I click on Burn, I get a message like this:
"No such interface supported".

What causes this error? I updated Vista with all the available updates.

Anwer:
1. Save your movie creation to the hard drive on your computer, by choosing the File > Publish Movie command and then selecting the "This computer" option and highest quality settings. 2. Open a new Movie Maker project. Import the saved movie into your project, then drag and drop the movie into your Movie Maker timeline. 3. Now choose the File > Publish Movie command again, but this time select the "DVD" option. Now all will proceed fine in burning the Vista DVD Maker

Announcing the RTM of Windows Vista SP1

SP1 availability for current Windows Vista users:

In mid-March, we will release Windows Vista SP1 to Windows Update (in English, French, Spanish, German and Japanese) and to the download center on microsoft.com. Customers who visit Windows Update can choose to install Service Pack 1. If Windows Update determines that the system has one of the drivers we know to be problematic, then Windows Update will not offer SP1. Since we know that some customers may want to update to SP1 anyhow, the download center will allow anyone who wants to install SP1 to do so.

In mid-April, we will begin delivering Windows Vista SP1 to Windows Vista customers who have chosen to have updates downloaded automatically. That said, any system that Windows Update determines has a driver known to not update successfully will not get SP1 automatically. As updates for these drivers become available, they will be installed automatically by Windows Update, which will unblock these systems from getting Service Pack 1. The result is that more and more systems will automatically get SP1, but only when we are confident they will have a good experience.

The remaining languages will RTM in April.

Ok, today it is Official, We will soon see it for all users, and allot of torrent sites at this time have it.

Becareful, there are allot of Rouge Versions out There.

Also, over the weekend, i had posted about the release, i had gotten an Email stting that it could be delayed, But as of 3:00am this morning it was confirmed.

I removed the last post, To make sure you were getting Current information, It seems that i should have just kept it up.

Disccopy is a vista-gadget and can be uninstalled like any gadget can be. To get it back re-run your nero installer. Pick Custom install, then scroll down to the special features area and locate disccopy. make sure its checked. You can uncheck-recheck it again if you like to be sure nero installs it.

Windows Vista SP1 Reviewed

<a style="display:block;text-align:center;float: left" uri="media://m103/st0000/7204079" href="http://m103.my.nero.com/service/pic/media/DexF7204079/500x500/vista-sp1.jpeg" rel="lightbox[pic2ce92178266deb87cdbab216659d7817]" title="
vista-sp1.jpg
">

Amidst all the conflicting reports about Vista Service Pack 1 (some say it'll arrive soon, some say 18 months from now), the fact of the matter is that some people have a beta of SP1 already, and that means it's now been leaked to the rest of the world. APC acquired and installed that beta, and posted some opinions on it here. Here's what you need to know.

Performance is "very noticeably" improved, with "far less hard drive thrashing" and better responsiveness.

There's only one new feature included in SP1: A "Create a Recovery Disc" system that lets you build your own recovery DVD which lets you create a new install disc without a Vista install disc. Sounds useful.
There are over 130 updates included (rumor confirmed), but little information on how exactly these updates work or what they do. APC includes a long list of components that have been updated, but no news on what exactly has been fixed in them. It's not their fault: Since Microsoft hasn't released the beta officially, APC has no way of knowing. That said, various changes (likely just stability bug fixes for the most part) have been made to a wide variety of services, including the backup system, indexer, MovieMaker, IIS web server, remote assistance, tablet PC system, and storage management. Look at the list about halfway down the linked post: Virtually no part of Vista appears to have gone untouched.
The two fixes released last week are also included.

As for their opinion, APC doesn't speak much about its hands-on experience except to say that those performance improvements are worth the price of the upgrade alone. Frankly, that's good enough for me.

============

Testers can download the BETA Here [techies only] (Be sure to read the pre-install directions.)

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=be34577a-e925-48fb-9d6d-50fe9461f808&DisplayLang=en

Windows Vista SP1 Details List

Quality Improvements

These improvements target some of the issues Microsoft has identified as the most common causes of operating system crashes and hangs, giving customers a more
reliable experience. These updates also improve performance in key scenarios—for example, when copying files or shutting down the computer.

Security
Security improvements that will be in Windows Vista SP1 include:

• Provides security software vendors a more secure way to communicate with Windows Security Center.

• Includes application programming interfaces (APIs) by which third-party security and malicious software detection applications can work with
kernel patch protection on x64 versions of Windows Vista. These APIs help ISVs develop software that extends the functionality of the Windows
kernel on x64 computers without disabling or weakening the protection offered by kernel patch protection.

• Improves the security of running RemoteApp programs and desktops by allowing Remote Desktop Protocol (RDP) files to be signed. Customers can
differentiate user experiences based on publisher identity.

• Strengthens the cryptography platform with a redesigned random number generator, which leverages the Trusted Platform Module (TPM), when present,
for entropy and complies with the latest standards. The redesigned RNG uses the AES-based pseudo-random number generator (PRNG) from NIST Special
Publication 800-90 by default. The Dual Elliptical Curve (Dual EC) PRNG from SP 800-90 is also available for customers who prefer to use it.

• Enhances BitLocker Drive Encryption (BDE) to offer an additional multifactor authentication method that combines a key protected by the Trusted
Platform Module (TPM) with a Startup key stored on a USB storage device and a user-generated personal identification number (PIN).

Reliability
Windows Vista SP1 will include improvements that target some of the most common causes of crashes and hangs, giving users a more consistent experience.
Many of these improvements will specifically address issues identified from the Windows Error Reporting tool.
The following list describes some of the reliability improvements that Windows Vista SP1 will include:

• Improved reliability and compatibility of Windows Vista when used with newer graphics cards in several specific scenarios and configurations.

• Improved reliability when working with external displays on a laptop.

• Improved Windows Vista reliability in networking configuration scenarios.

• Improved reliability of systems that were upgraded from Windows XP to Windows Vista.

• Increased compatibility with many printer drivers.

• Increased reliability and performance of Windows Vista when entering sleep and resuming from sleep.

Performance

• Improves the speed of copying and extracting files.

• Improves the time to become active from Hibernate and Resume modes.

• Improves the performance of domain-joined PCs when operating off the domain; in the current release version of Windows Vista,
users would experience long delays when opening the File dialog box.

• Improves battery life by reducing CPU utilization by not redrawing the screen as frequently, on certain computers.

• Improves the logon experience by removing the occasional 10-second delay between pressing CTRL-ALT-DEL and the password prompt displaying.

• Addresses an issue in the current version of Windows Vista that makes browsing network file shares consume significant bandwidth and not perform as fast as expected.

News Update: VISTA SP1

Public test next week for Vista SP1
Dec 5 2007

Microsoft on Tuesday said that it has reached the "release candidate" with the first service pack for Windows Vista, with plans to make the test software available publicly next week.

It is releasing the test code this week to the 15,000 or so people who have been beta testing SP1 already, and will also make it available on Thursday to those in the MSDN and TechNet developer programs.

"We feel really good and we look forward to receiving feedback from our larger set of testers," said David Zipkin, a senior product manager on the Windows Client team.

Microsoft also said on its Vista blog on Wednesday that it will make available a "blocker" that will allow customers who have Vista and use Windows Update to block SP1 upon its final release to allow for further testing. Microsoft offered a similar option with Windows XP Service Pack 2.

Service Pack 1 is mainly designed as a collection of bug fixes and performance improvements rather than an attempt to add new features. Among the changes that are more feature-related is the ability to use BitLocker encryption on multiple hard drive volumes as well as changes to the desktop search feature, which were made to satisfy antitrust concerns from Google.

Microsoft also said this week that it will change the way its antipiracy features work in SP1, eliminating a system in which Vista machines found not to be genuine are relegated to a near-unusable "reduced functionality mode." In its place, Microsoft will show prominent warnings and prompt those with non-genuine software to get a properly licensed copy. The new antipiracy approach will be in the final version of SP1 but is not part of the release candidate version.

The software maker has made some changes to SP1 since it began testing it earlier this year. In particular, the company has worked to reduce the size of the update as well as the amount of free space required to perform the update.

Vista still requires up to 4.5GB of free space for a typical user, but that's down from the 7GB required in earlier beta versions. Most of that space is returned back to the user. For some people, though, particularly those with ultramobile machines or running Vista in a partition on their Mac, the free space limit can be an obstacle.

Microsoft has also significantly reduced the file size of the Windows Update and full versions of the service pack, Zipkin said.

Nero 8 - too bloated?

Because I use Vista HP I upgraded to Nero 8, but I feel Nero is now becoming too bloated. As a Vista user I find many of the programmes in Nero to be less useful and I miss being able to just download the components I think are useful to me.

having major problems with nero software, burning mp3s

I had no problems burning mp3 cds before to play in my car. I built a
new machine, with Vista and got nero 8. Everytime i burn a cd it either
has read errors, or it wont have read errors and then it wont play in
my car.

I
have replaced the CD ROM, i have tried another machine with Vista
(MacBook), i have tried a complete different machine with XP pro now
and i am having the same problems. I have tried two different types of
media, Ridata and what i typically use which is Taiyoyuden. I have
tried 3 versions of nero. Nero 7 ultra, then i bought nero 8 ultra, and
then i used nero 8 essentials which came with my optical. I work on
computers for a living, but i am completely stumped. I thought it might
have been the mp3's causing some type of problem, so i tried burning a
completely different set of mp3s and same problem. I even tried taking
them off my network (i burn them off a NAS) and it still has the same
problem.

Someone tried to telling me to right click the program and run as administrator, did that. Did not fix the problem. Here is the settings i am burning the cd at.

Multisession: NO
Data Mode: Mode 1
File System: ISO 9960:1999
Relax Restriction (Checked) All of them
Cache file from disk and network is checked
Cache files smaller than 64 kb is checked
Burn is set to lowest possible for TaiyoYuden media (16x)
Write Method: Disc-at-once
SMART-Burn Checked
Write and Finalize disc is checked

For some reason now my cds just wont read at all in the car, and no longer make read errors.. WIERD!?!?! help please thanks guys!

MultiMonitor Support and Windows Vista

<a style="display:block;text-align:center;float: left" uri="media://m103/st0000/7203091" href="http://m103.my.nero.com/service/pic/media/Hd5x7203091/500x500/IMG-1563.jpeg" rel="lightbox[picabf59ff249fbac88d5c0476228c2e991]" title="
IMG_1563.jpg
">

Desktop real estate has been found to be a key factor in enhancing productivity of an information worker. It is not uncommon these days to see the use of two or more than two displays connected to a single PC. Multimonitor - the common technical term for more than one display on a single PC - has been a critical feature supported through Microsoft Windows operating systems. This capability is sometimes referred to as 'multimon' or 'multimonitor' among users.

<a style="display:block;text-align:center;float: left" uri="media://m103/st0000/7203092" href="http://m103.my.nero.com/service/pic/media/oetY7203092/500x500/ext-3.jpeg" rel="lightbox[picabf59ff249fbac88d5c0476228c2e991]" title="
ext-3.jpg
">This article discusses the various multi-adapter scenarios that exist today, summarizes changes brought through WDDM, and discusses various solutions based on appropriate hardware choices.

Graphics Multimonitor Concepts
The basic concepts related to the various types of multiple-adapter configurations are not new or specific to Windows Vista, but are important to understand in relation to the design of the multi-adapter feature in Windows Vista.

<a style="display:block;text-align:center;float: left" uri="media://m103/st0000/7203090" href="http://m103.my.nero.com/service/pic/media/t3Jp7203090/500x500/ext1.jpeg" rel="lightbox[picabf59ff249fbac88d5c0476228c2e991]" title="
ext1.jpg
">

Dual View
Most modern graphics adapters have at least two display outputs. Each of these outputs on a single graphics adapter could be connected individually to a display device or monitor to provide an "extended desktop" or to have the same desktop presented on both displays - that is, a "clone view." This is the most prevalent case where multi-monitor capabilities are achieved through a single graphics adapter.

<a style="display:block;text-align:center;float: left" uri="media://m103/st0000/7203094" href="http://m103.my.nero.com/service/pic/media/VaLM7203094/500x500/extdesktp.jpeg" rel="lightbox[picabf59ff249fbac88d5c0476228c2e991]" title="
extdesktp.jpg
">

Homogeneous Multi-adapter
Multi-adapter refers to the use of more than one graphics adapter in a single PC. The term "homogeneous multi-adapter" is used to refer to cases when more than one graphics adapter is in use but all adapters use the same graphics driver.

Here are two examples:

• Two identical cards from the same graphics hardware vendor - for example, two PCIe ATI Radeon x600 cards, each in an x16 PCIe slot.

<a style="display:block;text-align:center;float: left" uri="media://m103/st0000/7203093" href="http://m103.my.nero.com/service/pic/media/nZcq7203093/500x500/ext-pair.jpeg" rel="lightbox[picabf59ff249fbac88d5c0476228c2e991]" title="
ext-pair.jpg
">

• Two different cards from the same graphics hardware vendor - for example, one PCIe NVIDIA GeForce 7600 in an x16 slot and another PCIe NVIDIA GeForce 6600 in a second x16 slot.

Notice that the bus type - PCIe, AGP, or PCI - is irrelevant. You could have "n" cards in "n" PCIe slots of the same or different lane widths, or you could have "n-m" cards in PCIe slots and "m" cards in PCI slots. The key point to remember is that all "n" graphics adapters use a single graphics driver.

Heterogeneous Multi-adapter
The term "heterogeneous multi-adapter" is used to refer to multiple graphics adapters using multiple graphics drivers in a single PC. A common example is the use of graphics adapters from two different manufacturers, each of which requires a different graphics driver from the respective manufacturer.

Multimonitor Support before WDDM
Although Windows NT 4.0 did not have native multi-monitor support in the operating system, graphics hardware vendors could incorporate some level of support through their customized graphics drivers, software utilities, or both.

Windows 2000 provided some native support for management of multiple displays to present the desktop. Windows XP took this a step further through the Windows XP Display Driver Model (XPDM) to support multiple graphics cards natively and provided the hardware vendors with the proper means to offer support in their drivers.

Multimonitor Support in WDDM
On Windows Vista, older XPDM drivers still work and the multi-monitor behavior with XPDM drivers hasn't changed, because the operating system uses the legacy graphics stack.

However, the Windows Vista Display Driver Model (WDDM) brings fundamental changes to the management of multiple graphics adapters and external displays. This includes a new restriction, because WDDM drivers do not support "heterogeneous multi-adapter" multi-monitor implementations. Specifically:

• All graphics adapters in a system must use the same display driver model. That is, all of them should either be running XPDM or WDDM. The driver models are mutually exclusive, and Windows Vista does not allow the simultaneous loading of both an XPDM driver and a WDDM driver.

If a system has one graphics adapter with a XPDM driver and another with a WDDM driver, then Windows Vista will choose the POST device, which is the one with VGA resources. This is commonly referred to as the "VGA adapter."

• If multiple graphics adapters are present in a system, all of them must use the same WDDM driver. If there are two graphics adapters with WDDM drivers from two different manufacturers, then Windows will disable one of them. The VGA adapter will be enabled, and the second device will be disabled.

Notice that XPDM drivers still support heterogeneous multi-adapter as they did in Windows XP. A user who has such a configuration working fine in Windows XP will encounter a problem when upgrading to Windows Vista. An external monitor connected to one of the graphics adapters will have no video signal, because it is disabled. An error message will appear on system boot, as described later in this article.

The solution for this problem could be as follows:

• A user could force the installation of a XPDM driver for each of these devices, and therefore get heterogeneous multi-adapter multi-monitor to work as in Windows XP.

-Or-

• The user could change the graphics hardware configuration by choosing multiple graphics adapters that use the same WDDM driver. Graphics adapters from the same ASIC family generally have the same graphics driver. In late 2006, each of the major graphics vendors had a single WDDM driver for all supported WDDM graphics adapters. Please consult the graphics vendor's Web site for details on their driver support.

Background Notes: This restriction only affects a system that has WDDM drivers. WDDM was designed with stability as a key objective. Based on information gathered through Windows Error Reporting and the related Online Crash Analysis for Windows XP display drivers, Microsoft decided to simplify the graphics stack in Windows Vista.

The use of multiple graphics adapters occurred when graphics hardware vendors did not expose multiple connectors on graphics adapters. Today, almost all modern adapters support two or three connectors such as DVI, VGA, and S-Video. Also, most OEMs are now offering SLI/Crossfire configurations that support two or more graphics adapters that could also be used to connect more than two display devices when not in SLI/Crossfire mode.

WDDM and Multimonitor Configurations
The following examples describe possible desktop and mobile system configurations with WDDM-capable graphics adapters in cases where a user wants to connect more than one display device:

• Two monitors or dual-view: Single graphics adapter with two outputs, for example, DVI and VGA.

• Two, three, or more monitors:

• Graphics adapter A with two outputs in an x16 PCIe slot, plus another graphics adapter B with one or more outputs in another x16 PCIe slot.
Both A and B use the same WDDM driver.

• Graphics adapter A with two outputs in an x16 PCIe slot, plus another graphics adapter B with one or more outputs in an x1 PCIe slot.
Both A and B use the same WDDM driver.

• Graphics adapter A with two outputs in an x16 PCIe slot, plus another graphics adapter B with one or more outputs in a conventional PCI slot.
Both A and B use the same WDDM driver.

• Graphics adapter A with two outputs in an AGP slot, plus another graphics adapter B with one or more outputs in a conventional PCI slot.
Both A and B use the same WDDM driver.

• A mobile PC with an internal graphics adapter A, connected to a docking station that includes an external graphics adapter B.
Both the internal graphics adapter A and external graphics adapter B use the same WDDM driver.

Error Messages for Multimonitor Issues
In a system configured with heterogeneous graphics adapters (that is, adapters that use different drivers), Windows Vista will disable one of the two adapters and present an error message: "INCOMPATIBLE DISPLAY ADAPTER HAS BEEN DISABLED"

Device Manager will show the disabled device with an Error Code 43. Event Log Viewer will also have a message logged that contains the same text as in the error message displayed.

The user could not find it. I was worried at 1st too but I found it.

Just like last time this feature is hidden under CUSTOM installation..

Run the installer, Pick Custom, open the special features or Tools in the list and make sure you've enabled DISC-COPY.

Note: You must have VISTA to get the gadget.
