Nero 8 - Windows XP System Crash/Serious Error on .MP4 click

I just installed Nero 8 Ultra Edition yesterday. I was a previous Nero 6 OEM version user. Apparently part of the Nero 8 Ultra Edition installation forces the association of previous .mp4 files on the hard drive that were previously associated with Quicktime to change their association to Nero.

However, ...if you click on one of these previous .mp4 files the system "crashes" then reboots and says "The system has recovered from a serious error". The system also provides a Error signature information window as well as an Error Reports Contents window which points to a .dmp file and a .xml file.

My previous Nero version was Nero 6 OEM that came with the Memorex external DVD drive. I did not have this problem with this previous Nero 6 OEM version.

If I go to Windows Explorer and select one of these previous .mp4 files and open it with Quicktime, it opens successfully and runs ...and the system does not crash.

1. So there seems to be a compatibility problem with Nero 8 and Windows XP and previous .mp4 files or ?

2. Is there any way to reset all the previous .mp4 files to be associated with Quicktime rather than Nero?

My system is Windows XP, SP2, all updates are current.

I will also copy and send this to the online Nero technical support to see if there is any help from that front.

If there is anyone out there who might have knowledge of this problem and can point be to another blog or more info it would be much appreciated. I did do a search of current blogs but nothing is there or perhaps I did not use the right search terms?

Mediahome and Xbox 360

Is it possible to stream xvid and mp4 videos straight to xbox 360 without transcoding to wmv on the fly? Since the lastest 360 update I can use windows media player for the xvids (.avi), and Zune for the mp4s. I thought I could do both with Mediahome by choosing to stream files 'as is' but it doesn't seem to work? Transcoding on the fly to WMV works fine but the quality is very poor and pixelated.

Nero 8 Ultra Edition - Audio Problems Using Nero Recode Digital to .mp4 files

Using Nero 8 Recode, recoding from DVD Video_TS files stored my hard drive, and recoding selecting the main movie to a .mp4 file format at 1.4GB size, the recoding appears to go fine, but when playing back the new .mp4 file using either Nero ShowTime or VLC Player, the movie appears fine but the Audio is broken up and not understood.

This only happens where there is talking or dialogue involved, but if only music is present it will play the music just fine.

This only happens using the new Nero 8 Ultra Edition, it did not happen using Nero v7 Ultra Edition Enhanced.

I did everything the same using both versions of Nero v8 and v7, and it only happens using Nero v8.

Please advise ton how to have Nero 8 Recode function properly and correcting the Audio problems.

Also, Is Nero giving free phone tech support for the month of October or longer for Nero v8?

If so how do I access this help and what phone number do I use?

Converting a video to play on a SmartPhone, e.g. Nokia N73, with Recode2

This tip shows you how to make a video for a phone that can play MP4 format.

First open up Recode 2 and select Recode DVDs and Videos to Nero Digital.

Next click on Import Files and select the file you want to encode from the browser.

You can use various kinds of source files, e.g. DVD files, video camera files, avi, mpg, mp4, etc.

Double click on the file name or press the Add Title button then close the browser or add another file to the compilation.

Select Nero Digital in the Nero Digital Category drop down and Portable as the Nero Digital Profile.

To reduce the amount of phone memory needed: uncheck “Fit to target” and move the Video quality slider to the left until it shows between 280.0kbps and 320.0kbps. The higher the number the better the quality, the lower the number the smaller the file and the less memory you will use.

Now to prepare for the screen size of the phone. The N73 has a screen with 320 pixels wide and 240 pixels high. To change the resolution press the “Video” button and select the Resize tab. Click on Custom Resize and enter 320 wide and 240 tall.

Recode removes blank borders from your video automatically (Cropping). Sometimes you can do an even better job by selecting the Crop tab and Custom Crop and making adjustments yourself.

When you are finished making adjustments click OK

If you have unwanted video at the start or end of your film use the Trim button to remove it.

Now, you are all set to burn, click Next to go on to burning the file.

Under Burn Options choose Hard Disk Folder and browse to where you want to save the video.

Under Nero Digital Settings select expert mode and under Quality/speed change Performance/Quality to Normal.

Now you are ready to burn. When you are finished you can cancel saving the log, click next and view your creation in Showtime

I am using TivoToGo software to transfer .tivo files to my PC and then convert to .mp4 file. Once converted they will not play the video only the sound. HELP
