East meets West

Last weekend I stumbled over Ynag Liu's exhibition in Dresden. Literaly! The posters are mounted in the pedestrian area next to the historic fortress at the exact height of my shin bone. That hurt!

Still I'm glad to be hit.

There were a bunch of posters. Each poster showd something
that differs. Hence each poster show the Chinese way with red background and German way on blue background. Well, see for yourself...

Deutscher Herbst

In September and October 1977 terrorism in Germany hit its peak. Back then the RAF (Rote Armee Fraktion) assaulted German politicians and representatives of the economc system.

On September 5th (1977) the RAF kidnapped Hans Martin Schleyer. They tried to blackmail the government to free RAF prisoners. The government did not agree the exchange and so Schleyer was found dead on October 19th.

Because the government did not agree to the prisoners exchange, the air plane "Landshut" was hijacked on October 13th. After an odyssey through Arab World the captain was killed. On October 18th (at about 1 am) special forces stormed the plane and freed all 86 hostages.

At the same night, the convicted terrorists Andreas Baader, Gudrun Ensslin and Jan-Carl Raspe commited suicide. Irmgard Möller survived her suicide attempt. All four were imprisoned in the same building, but separate.

Hans Martin Schleyer was shot after the hijacked air plane was freed. His body was found on October 19th 1977. These incidents are known as Deutsche Herbst.

Things Change

Today on August 1st, there is a bunch of new German laws in force:

There are new and new ordered "Ausbildungsberufe" (jobs that require training)
Transplantations get more secure
"prohibition" for young drivers
Non-smoker protection in some staats

From now on young drivers (or drivers that just got their license) are bound to zero alcohol. The overall limit for alcohol consumption is reaches from 0.03% to 0.11%. This allows you to have like one or two beer on a night out and still being able to drive. The new law prohibits any alcohol for young people under 21 and people who have their license for less then two years.

The new law about transplantations allows to trace organs and stuff from the donator to the recipient. Further more there are some new rules that change the way to deal with organs etc.

In some parts of Germany (Niedersachesn = Lower Saxony, Mecklenburg-Vorkommern = Mecklenburg Western Pomerania and Baden-Württemberg) there are a couple of laws to protect non-smokers. From now on smoking in public buildings, restaurants, bars and music-clubs.

Looks like they want me to quit smoking :-)

You may not know this, but Germany has an extremely dangerous population of aggressive squirrels. Just take a look at this sad story. If only the German people were allowed to carry firearms, episodes like this wouldn't happen! If you're planning on going to Germany, just watch yourself. The squirrels are no joke, people!
