Burning DVD-Video with Nero 8

Here's a quick guide on using the new Nero 8 to burn DVD-Video. For this guide will use Express.

In the Start Page click on 'Rip & Burn'. By default if you click on Burn Video Disc - Burning Rom will open. To change that move your cursor over Burn Video Disc and right click. Here you can change what app of Nero you want this option to open. Or pick one in the list. Here I picked Express.

Once you click on Express - Express will open with the Video option picked. Now click on DVD-Video files to add your files.

Click add, find the folder that has the movie/video and click add.

Now your files are added so just click next.

Here you can name the dvd, pick a different drive to burn to, and set your burn speed. Burn at 1/2 the rated speed of the media. Click Burn and Nero will start burning.

Making DVD-Video "audio" CDs with Vision

The DVD-Video standard supports adding LPCM audio (uncompressed) with 16 bit or 24 bit and 48 or 96 kHz sampling. In particular, one thing I have done is to use Nero Vision 4 to create a DVD-Video. Several titles (one title per music CD) are created with each image in a title having a " commentary audio" track added. Each image/audio-track is therefore one of the Chapters in that TItle (album).

(Note: I don't use the separate narration background audio track.)

The image is just a scanned jpg of the track list from the original CD cover art (same for each chapter in the title) and the audio is make the same length as the slide. The DVD-Video audio setting property is set at LPCM not Dolby.

I ripped 7 CDs into wav format (using EAC) and then added these audio tracks (each about 35 Mb wav) as commentary audio to each slide. When the DVD-Video is created, the audio is upconverted/upsampled from the 44.1/16 (CD-DA) to 48kHz/16 bit automatically by Nero Vision. This allows roughly 6 or 7 music CDs to be put onto one DVD-Video with the same original audio quality (assuming upsampling doesn't degrade audio quality) and that DVD-Video can then be played in any standard DVD player with the same CD-DA audio quality. Plus you can have on-screen/TV navigation art etc .. or maybe lyrics display with each audio-track.

Question 1:

How can I quickly add 7 identical images to the same title in Nero Vision? Currently I have to drag the same image 7 times.

Question: 2:

Nero Vision does NOT seem to currently support adding 16bit/96 kHz or 24 bit/96 kHz wav to slide show as audio even though DVD-Video standard supports this. Any way to do this?

Suggestion: I think a future version of Nero Vision should make this process easier (i.e. "Add multile audio CDs to DVD-Video compilation").
