Help with Audio!!

It took me forever to finally download this program. There are no REAL help files. They are all in computer language that I don't understand.

But the issue is. I burned a DVD that worked okay, files are dark and hard to see, there is no audio on the DVD. I heard it fine while i was recording.

Did I miss something? I hope I don't sit here like others for years on end with no response.

dvr.ms files no audio

I have Windows Vista
MCE on my HTPC machine. It's inconvenient to edit files there, so I transfer
them to my XP (XP Home, Service Pack 2) machine for editing. I have been using
Nero 7 to convert these files to Nero Digital (or to mpg files) with no problem
at all. I recently "upgraded" to Nero 8. I can still convert the video files,
but I get no audio at all. I have installed nothing else recently that should
have affected this.

I have used the
clean tool, reinstalled and updated everything. I also spent the fifteen bucks
for the Dolby Decoder, which didn't make any difference. So now by my count I'm
out about $65 and in worse shape than I was in before.

When I use the
program gspot to find out what the audio codec is in the dvr.ms file it lists it
as "DVR." I can convert the files to mpg with a free program called
dvrmstoolbox, but I'd really prefer to get back to where I started from,
especially since I'm now out $65.

I have searched other posts but found no clear answers to this - anyone know what might be happening?

Nero purging mp3 artist & tile characters over 30

When making a new audio cd, add a few mp3 tracks that their ID tag title or artist (more commonly title) exceeds 30 characters. Nero purges all characters past 30. Now if you go to the 'Audio Track Properties' of that mp3 file you may add a longer CD Text title and burn without any issues.

Is there a way of globally setting Nero to allow CD Text over 30 characters automatically for all future burns?

I do not use CD Text so I don't care about the devices that will show this and if they have character limitations. I'm more concerned about not having to waste time and recopy copy titles that already exist for printing via Cover Designer.

Simple Vinly LP to CD transfer

There have been a few articles about transferring audio from "2 ounces of plastic with a hole in the middle" to CD recently. These include http://mrchuck999.my.nero.com/blog/7101388 for example.

An even simpler way, and not too expensive is to use a turntable equipped with USB.

Just Google on "vinyl USB" there are several type available from about $150 dollars. In principle a bit easier to set up than turntables, preamps, RIAA, soundcard, line inputs, cables, etc...

Also, a tool I find very good for removing pops and clicks, and for spliiting tracks is Wave Corrector (Google on "Wave Corrector"). You record the LP and Wave Corrector scans the recorded file for pops, clicks and track gaps. It makes a good job of ironing out the pops.

Once my tracks are ready I burn them with, you guessed it, Nero Burning ROM.

Have fun,

Zingzog

BTW: "2 ounces of plastic with a hole in the middle" was an album from the good old days of Rock by the Welsh band Man. Brilliant (if you can find it!)

And you wondered why people are so confused about HD

This morning I was doing my usual daily reading, which largely consists of looking through a bunch of RSS feeds and occasionally reading an article all the way through. One of the articles that looked promising enough to actually read was by a CNet blogger named George Ou who was ranting that HD from internet video providers isn't "Real HD" because it uses a low bitrate.

Forgetting for the moment that he makes claims about what bitrates are used for DVD encoding or required for AVC/VC-1 encoding that simply have no basis in the real world, he's correct that the bitrates typically used by online video providers simply aren't good enough for high quality HD. But that doesn't mean its not HD. HD means high definition, and refers to the resolution of the screen. To say that 720p video isn't HD simply because it's encoded at a low bitrate is preposterous.

When pressed on the issue later, his response was simply that it looks like SD video to him. He declined to elaborate on how his opinion means 720p isn't HD. Later in the day he even posted an update to his blog attempting to illustrate his point about the quality, but still insisted on calling it "Fake HD." After I once again called him out on the issue he responded that it's "low fidelity."

Now I don't personally care if Mr. Ou is misinformed, but it bothers me greatly to see people making public declarations about video related topics when they can't even manage to use basic terminology correctly. One of the biggest reasons so many people don't understand basic HDTV and digital video technology is because this kind of "expert" analysis is so prevalent. Based on his CNet bio, which lists a bunch of IT experience, he should understand the importance of accurately using technical terms.

Converting 45rpm singles recorded at 33rpm to CD

Hi, I've been away a while. I've been trying to record and restore some lovable old vinyl. It takes forever doesn't it.

Specifically, I have got some 45rpm records that I wanted to restore and record on CD.

However, I have got a turntable that only plays at 33.33333… rpm. Yeh, one of the fancy ones that doesn’t even take the needle off the record at the end!

If I play the singles at 33rpm they sound slow and the pitch is low. But I decided to record them at 33rpm anyway and find some way of speeding them up to shift the pitch back to where it should be.

I figured that if I recorded at 33rpm and 441000 samples per second (sps) it is like playing at 45rpm and recording at 59535 sps. ( (45/33.33)*44100 = 59535, about 60000 ish)

So, to get the sound back to the correct speed and pitch I reckoned that I needed to do the equivalent of converting them from as if they were 60000sps back to 44100sps.

I found a super utility called sr-convert (it can be found in sourceforge, it was developed by Edward Kiser). It can convert between various sample rates, 44100 to 48000, and many, many more. The only drawback is you have to build it to use it, there is no exe downloadable so I made my own.

I chose to convert from 60000sps to 44100 (about 0.7% error in pitch from the ideal), and it works fine. I guess I should compensate for the shift in RIAA equalization as well but it’s good enough. (The old vinyl doesn't sound so good, like me it's pretty well worn!)

Here are a couple of links to samples:

How to burn audio CD from MP3 files?

Hi!

A Happy new year to All.

I have a lot of disks with MP3 music and I listen a lot in a car, but the car stereo doesn’t read MP3. So, I have got an idea to burn several audio CDs from MP3 files. So far I could not find an easy way to do it with Nero 8.

Maybe, someone one had such problem before and knows the way-out? I would appreciate your advice. Thanks!
